Training course aims:
The SIA Escorting and Disengagement Skills for Security Staff is for employees that need to touch members of the public in the course of their job and may have members of the public touch them and need to know how to stay safe and within the law in doing so.
It complies with the Health and Safety Act 1974 Section 2-legal duty to makes staff safe. This is an SIA compliant vocational qualification and a mandatory requirement for all Door Supervisors.
The SIA Escorting and Disengagement Skills for Security Staff training course is of one day duration course and on completion all delegates receive the SIA qualification in Escorting and Disengagement Skills for Security Staff.
Course objectives:
To successfully achieve the award delegates will be expected to:
- Identify the differences between defensive physical skills and physical interventions
- Identify the difference between non-restrictive and restrictive interventions
- Identify positive alternatives to physical intervention
- Explain why it is important to only use physical intervention skills as a last resort
- State legal and professional implications relating to the use of physical interventions
- Explain the use of dynamic risk assessment in situations where physical interventions are used
- Identify risk factors involved with the use of physical interventions
- Identify ways of reducing the risk of harm during physical interventions
- State responsibilities immediately following physical interventions
- Explain why it is important to keep physical intervention knowledge and skills current
- Be able to use non-aggressive physical skills to protect yourself and others from assault
- Be able to use non-pain related standing holding and escorting techniques, including non- restrictive and restrictive skills
- Understand good practice to follow after physical interventions
Pre-registration requirements:
Candidates who register for the Escorting and Disengagement Skills for Security Staff will be expected to have:
- The physical capability to be able to undertake physical skills training
- The personal ability to undertake classroom training and sit written exam papers
