Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression (PMVA) – Low Risk

The three-day course is aimed at low risk care workers, while the four-day course is for those who work within high risk environments.

Who’s it aimed at?

Also referred to as Management of Violence and Aggression (MOVA) or Management of Violence and Aggression (MVA) training, PMVA is aimed at care workers and comprises conflict resolution, breakaway, physical restraint and physical interventions.

Day 1

Delegates will:

Describe common causes of conflict

Describe two forms of communication, i.e. verbal and non-verbal

Give examples of communication breakdowns

Explain three examples of communication models that can assist conflict

Understand patterns of behaviour that may be encountered during different interactions

R

Explain the different warning and danger signs

Give examples of impact factors

R

Describe the use of distance when dealing with conflict

R

Explain the use of ‘reasonable force’ as it applies to conflict management

R

Describe different methods for dealing with possible conflict situations

Day 2 & 3

Delegates will study the Edexcel BTEC Level 2 Award in Disengagement and Non-restrictive Physical Intervention Skills (QCF), which comprises:

R

Unit 1: Law and Risks of Physical Intervention when working with Young People and Vulnerable Adults (6 hours)

R

Unit 3: Disengagement and Non-restrictive Physical Intervention Methods (8 hours)
